Bachelor’s degree :
The Bachelor’s degree is the first degree of the LMD system. The student who follows university studies obtains a Bachelor’s degree after 3 years. Thus, having a bachelor’s degree means that the student has a degree equivalent of Bac + 3 (French level).
The teaching during the years of a Bachelor’s degree is mainly academic and allows the student to consider further studies (Master’s and PhD).
Master’s degree :
The Master’s degree is a five-year degree. A student with a master’s degree can prepare for a Doctorate Degree if he meets the admission requirements.
The master’s degree is awarded by public universities. Many higher education institutions around the world also offer a five-year degree (Bac +5 degrees), equivalent to a Master’s degree: engineering schools, business schools, etc.
Admission to a master’s degree program follows a tough selection process.
Doctorate Degree :
The doctorate degree is the highest degree in the LMD system. Students with a master’s degree (bac+5) can apply for doctoral studies. Generally, the student spends at least 3 years of research under the supervision of a specialized professor, before obtaining the doctorate degree.
The studies are mainly practical and require a lot of dedication and autonomy. At the end of the research, the doctoral student has to write a thesis regrouping the results of his research. After the defense, the jury awards the student the doctoral degree.
Language courses / foundation year
This is a non-degree program, designed for people who do not have the required language level to enter the university of their choice or who do not have the required certification. The program can be either 1 year of language or 1 year of preparatory courses.
